The issue of same sex marriage has become a widely debated topic among many Americans lately. Many don’t know what to think when they are asked about the issue because it is so foreign to them. I believe that same sex marriage is wrong and that it should not be legal in our country.
In the Bible, God condemns homosexual activity and says that it is considered a sin. There are many gays that claim to be Christian, but they are going against God’s word with the way they live their lives. Also, there are many Christians who support this cause that are not gay. They are just as much at fault. Not only do their actions affect them and their lord, but their children are also deeply impacted. Obviously no gay couple has a mom and dad, but don’t children need one of both? Girls and boys both need the affection of a mother to carry them through their younger years, and they need the sternness of a father to guide them through their teenage years. A boy without a mother may never learn how to respect women and may reject them later in life. A girl without a father has a higher chance of becoming part of a teen pregnancy statistic(Trayce Hansen). In most aspects of life, a child needs a mother and father figures.
Many may say that being gay is genetic; they can’t help it so why penalize them for something they can’t control. I say that gay being a trait is nearly impossible. It is impossible for two gay people to have a child so how can their traits be passed on. Some homosexual women can be artificially inseminated but that child does not come entirely from two gay parents. With no reproduction process in homosexuality there cannot be a passing of genes.
Without someone taking action against this argument, this debate will continue to go on. As long as our country allows this act to go on, we will constantly have to fight the fight on homosexuality.
“The social research also shows that children need two parents. There is no appreciable difference between a child raised by a man and a woman or one raised by two men or two women.”
This is simply not the case..
1. “Social science literature demonstrates the children who are reared by a married natural mother and father have more positive outcomes in a wide variety of important factors compared to children in other adequately studied family structures- including single parent families, adopted families, step families, divorced families and the like.
2. “Children reared in a stable natural married family are likely to do better on various measures of educational attainment; exhibit fewer behavioral problems, including conduct disorders, alcohol and drug abuse, and juvenile delinquency; will not be as likely to engage in criminal behavior as adults; engage in sexual relations as teenagers, and to experience an unwed pregnancy; have a decreased risk for mental/emotional illness; have a decreased risk of physical illness and infant mortality; experience decreased risk of suicide; have a greater life expectancy; likely to benefit from high levels of parental investment, commitment, and closeness (particularly with their fathers); be victims of physical and sexual abuse; experience higher levels of family stability as adults, including a decreased divorce risk.”
Varnum v. Brien, No. CV 5965 (Iowa Dist. Ct. Mar. 15, 2007),
So we know that married intact natural families are the gold standard. This fact has scientific consensus. Same-sex parenting lacks a scientific consensus because there simply are not enough good studies on which to base a conclusion.

“With no reproduction process in homosexuality there cannot be a passing of genes.”
You should actually study genetics. You don’t get only the obvious, active traits from your parents. For example, two parents with blue eyes can have a child with brown eyes. Two incredibly pale-skinned parents can have an olive-skinned child. Two black parents can have an albino child. Two straight parents can have a gay child, and two gay parents (a lesbian inseminated by a gay man, for example) can have a straight child.
The latest research I’ve come across seems to suggest that the same genes that makes a woman more fertile can make a male homosexual. Or more likely to be homosexual, anyway.
The social research also shows that children need two parents. There is no appreciable difference between a child raised by a man and a woman or one raised by two men or two women.
All that being said, you are completely within your right to be against homosexual marriage, and your church should not be forced to perform them. But it should be legal in this country.
